American Idol, the popular reality TV show has spawned 10 winners to date. The most awarded contestant is Carrie Underwood, the season four winner. She received five Grammy awards including best female country vocal three years in a row. Her 2009 album “Play On” included “Cowboy Casanova” and “Undo It.”
Season one winner, Kelly Clarkson, has also made quite a name for herself with two Grammys and several blockbuster hits like “Breakaway” and “My Life Would Suck Without You.” She recently released her fifth studio album, and continues to tour.
Ruben Studdard and Taylor Hicks, from seasons two and five, were overshadowed by Clay Aiken, who was second to Ruben, and Chris Daughtry who was third place to Taylor.
Other winners include Fantasia Barrino from season three, Jordin Sparks from season six, who has had some popular hits on the airwaves, and David Cook from season seven. David recently finished his first major tour in 2009 and began working on his second album.
Kris Allen won season eight, but runner up Adam Lambert shot into the mainstream like a bullet. His Glam Nation Tour was sold out everywhere. Kris’s debut single, “Live Like We’re Dying”hit the charts and skyrocketed upward.
